No year is all good nor all bad, we go through ups & downs, we enjoy the ups & learn from the downs.
Year 2014 was a whole school for me, I have experienced emotions like never before, visited exquisite places never thought I will, met people that left a long lasting positive impact on my life, and most importantly.. I know me much more now.
I call it a good year, any year is good as long as you come out of it a stronger person, more determined, and wiser than before.
I wont be sharing all the highlights of 2014, some of them were personal, others I want to smile to them alone, and few I would like to forget. However; I will share here one of my greatest highlights, and also a life changing experience.
This year was magical, my camera did all the magic while I was dancing right behind it. I signed up as a filmmaking student at NYFA (New York Film Academy) in Florence Italy, learned from great experts the techniques to make short films, I enjoyed great company of filmmakers, actors, directors, scenarists and producers.
A cinematographer at NYFA saw my photographs on Flicker and 500px and said to me that I got the “Eye” needed, and it’s time for my photos to have “motion” that would express the words I write above them every time I post on FB..He said “Let me see motion, let me hear voices, let the colors dance”..
It was a great push and I was humbled by his words, and I think the same advice applies to any photographer with a good “Eye” who is willing to work tirelessly and aiming towards filmmaking industry.
Out of passion and joy I decided to make my first short film, using only a DSLR camera, 2 lenses and a tripod. I walked all around Florence filming things that I loved, faces, pets, nature, sky, trees, rain, food, sports, everyday life, landscapes, amazing views, children, dances…ect..and put them together.. I called my first short film:
(While in Italy) ♥
It was also the first time ever using any professional editing programs. Why not learn? I downloaded Adobe Premier Pro CC, watched tens of videos on colors correction, mixing sounds, clipping shots..ect. I collected my favourite Italy shots, picked the music that would merge beautifully with the scenes and make them even more alive, sat on A.P-CC for about 16 hours with only 1 cup of tea.. and traaa..It was ready to see the sun!
1st phase (sharing): I have never felt so excited about a film (Since it’s my first one) :-). I shared it privately with some friends, they were still asleep at around 8:00AM, so I went ahead and posted it on Youtube.
The 2nd phase (Feedback): More than 3K watched it in less than 2 month, I have received marvelous & encouraging comments from amateurs & experts. Some comments were criticism actually, but I didn’t mind, I wanted to learn to make the 2nd film better and sharper. A touristic company contacted me and bought some of the shots for commercial purposes, الحمد لله حمداً كثيراً
The film has several mistakes, If I go back I’ll never make them again inshaAllah, but this taught me a lot and have enhanced my skills.
I thank my precious family, outstanding friends, supportive experts & colleagues for all the feedback and encouragement.
So the highlight of this story is not actually the film itself, it’s the fact that I was fearing shooting videos, but when I came back from Italy, my video settings and I were on a common ground. 🙂
I’m working now on my (While in Turkey) ♥ version – Super excited & aiming at taking myself with it to the next level.
Enjoy While in Italy (Watch in HD option) , & would love to hear your thoughts. Ciao 🙂
